Hope Quilters, includes members & friends & meets in the Fellowship Hall the 4th Thursday of the month, 9:30 to ??, so some bring a bag lunch.  Some sewing happens at church & some at members’ homes.  Quilts have been given to folks who are sick, shut-in, leaving our community, & some have gone to Project Linus & worthy fund raisers.  They are given “with love & best wishes from your friends at Hope UMC, Duluth, MN”.  Some members also mend for the folks at Aftenro & for the young people at Woodland Hills.

If you would like to be a part of Hope Quilters, contact Sue Beeman at 728-2406.  It is a wonderful fellowship & service opportunity & a willing spirit is the only requirement.

We are still active as we start our 8th year in January 2016! The original purpose of the group was to donate quality quilts to Duluth/Superior non-profit groups helping those in need. Quilt gifts have expanded to     Include our church family and graduates.  The fellowship generated with each other, the church and the community is a blessing. We meet the 4th Thursday of the month in the Fellowship Hall at 9:30 am.

In order to make a quilt we rely on donated fabric,  equipment, and money to buy supplies (e.g.: batting and thread) as needed. One quilt can take anywhere from 30 to 100 hours to assemble, is tied or machine  quilted, then edge finished with binding. The majority of our quilts are sent out to be machine quilted by one person who has generously given her time and talent. A quilt label is attached and a blessing of the quilts by Pastor Laurie is the final touch.

Accomplishments since starting:

In remembrance of former quilting member, Mickey Olson, we have placed a brick in the garden that reads – “Go now in Peace”
